If there is one question that concerns us from the beginning of a bathroom renovation project, it is certainly the price. This data is essential to determine the range of materials you will purchase as well as the extent of the work. 

In order to help you plan the budget for your bathroom renovation project, here are some examples of projects carried out by contractors in our network along with the prices asked for their realization.

Concerning the prices, it should be noted that depending on the work conditions, they could vary from one extreme to another. For example, a bathroom that is located on a second floor with or without access by elevator, the transportation distance to the worksite, the protective measures that need to be taken during the renovation project, etc.

Details of the work and price

The old bathroom was destroyed to rebuild the room that is seen in the photo.

Price range: Materials $6500 - $8000 (Robinetterie Grohe, Allemagne on the photo for high-end products); Labour $7000 - $9000. (Built-in LED lights and other electronic gadgets such as high-end heating floors).

Concerning the material price range, this amount includes plumbing elements, accessories, cabinets and pharmacies, along with everything that is required to complete the work, not counting the furniture and the decoration accessories.

Faucets

  • Must be solid and easy to manipulate

  • Available materials: chrome, brass, stainless steel, copper, etc.

Bathroom cabinets and drawers

  • It must be installed at a proper height and resistant to humidity.
  • Different styles, colours, methods of installation (corner, etc.), heights and sizes.
  • Often comes in the form of a pharmacy with a mirror.
  • Materials: melamine, wood, metal, glass for the doors, PVC, etc.

The price will depend on whether you get your furniture built custom-made. Otherwise, here are a few examples of prices for furniture bought in store: 

Pharmacy: $40 to $220

Standard vanity: $120 to $450

Countertop

  • Must be resistant to humidity.
  • Different textures, finishes, colours and materials.
  • Most common materials: laminate counter, stone, Corian, marble, quartz, tiles (ceramic or stone), etc.

  • Ceramic (low-end/high-end(: $0.50 to $30/square foot
  • Stratified:$5 to $25/linear foot
  • Granite: $40 to $150/linear foot

Bathroom flooring

  • Must be resistant to water and humidity.
  • Avoid materials that are too slippery
  • Main materials: ceramic, vinyl, linoleum, stone (granite, slate, etc.), treated cork, etc.

  • Vinyl : $4 to $12/square foot
  • Ceramic : $2 to $7/square foot
  • Natural stone : $5 to $12/square foot

Wallcoverings

  • Other than paint, tiles are also an appropriate wall covering for bathrooms (ceramic, mosaic, porcelain, etc.)

Natural stone wall: approx. $10/square foot

Decorative stone wall: approx. $7/square foot

Tile wall: approx. $1 to $7/square foot

Bathroom paint

  • Must be resistant to humidity and easy to clean.
  • Try to use 100% acrylic paint and paint that is specifically made for bathrooms and kitchens.
  • A vast array of colours and finishes (semi-matte, glossy, semi-gloss, etc.)

Ventilation

  • Must properly evacuate the humidity.
  • Available with blades or with a turbine (less noisy)

Installing a bathroom fan: $300 to $500

Cleaning ventilation ducts: $300 to $600

Lighting

  • Lighting must give off enough light to cover all surfaces, according to the needs of the occupants.
  • Different types of lighting (general, specific to one part of the bathroom, decorative)
  • Different characteristics: manual settings or according to the amount of natural light, sconce, installed on railings, encased, suspended, etc.

Prices vary according to the type of work. Here are a few examples of bathroom lamps and their prices:

Storage

  • Furniture must be resistant to humidity

  • Must be very well protected from humidity and potential contact with water

Plumbing

 

  • Must be installed correctly to avoid accidents (flooding, noisy pipes, water flow and pressure, etc.)
  • Has to be done by a professional

  •  Cellulose: $0.85/ square foot/inch (needs to be very thick)
