What materials should be used for paving your entrance?
Asphalt
Probably the most popular material of all, asphalt is without a doubt the one that will be most gentle to your wallet. Generally intended for a lifespan of about 15 years, the asphalt entrance can, however, be kept for 20 years if its foundation is well compacted, it has the right thickness and is made with good-quality granulate.

It’s good to note that resurfacing a driveway is not always possible. In fact, your driveway must always maintain a minimum slope of 2% to allow rainwater to flow and not stagnate on the surface.
Are you the owner of a new property?
Don’t be too eager to asphalt your entrance, because you have to wait between 6 and 12 months for the soil to be sufficiently compacted naturally to be able to do so.
Do you have a truck or a recreational vehicle?
If you have an RV or a truck, remember to notify the contractor before work starts. Indeed, for driveways that need to absorb an extra load of weight, contractors will use a stronger asphalt mix.
Paver stones
Another very popular material for paving the entrance, the paving stone consists of a mixture of aggregates, cement and sand. A little more expensive than asphalt at the time of purchase, it has a lifespan of about 30 years.
Since it is easy to repair, a driveway made with this type of material only requires removing pavers on the ground and levelling it. A simple basic set of know-how is therefore required to maintain the driveway over the years.
Concrete
Recognized for its strong resistance, concrete also has a fairly long lifespan (about 30 years). Since it is more expensive than other materials, some opt to create a driveway that mixes concrete with pavers. This combination makes it possible to take advantage of the many textures offered by the paved stone.
