Everything to Know About Daikin Heat Pumps

A heat pump is an important purchase for your home and it often helps solve temperature variation issues indoors. Daikin offers options and features that suit all needs and budgets. We will explore this subject in the following paragraphs.
A heat pump is the most popular alternative when looking to combine a heating and air conditioning system into a single unit. It can be wall-mounted or central, the main difference being that a wall-mounted system will not require the presence or installation of ventilation ducts.
A heat pump is also recognized as an energy-efficient means of heating and air conditioning your home, allowing you to enjoy great savings on your energy bill!
Daikin heat pumps are designed to be durable and indispensable devices that manage year-round temperature fluctuations and blend comfort and durability.
Daikin heat pumps
Daikin in a few words
Founded in 1924 by Akira Yamada, Daikin Industries is a Japanese company specializing in climate engineering. Canada and certain areas of Japan share similar climates, from hot and humid summers to cold and snowy winters. As a result, their heat pumps are the ideal choice if you are looking for a heat pump that is adapted to Canadian weather conditions.
Fun fact: the company has a mascot named Pichon-kun. This mascot is rather famous in Japan and Pichon-kun mugs, keychains and stuffed animals are available.
Smart Inverter technology
All heat pumps basically function the same way: they transfer heat to regulate the room temperature. When finished working, they turn off, only starting up again if the temperature variation requires adjustment.
Smart Inverter technology is one of the features that make Daikin heat pumps energy efficient. They never stop, instead opting to slow down the engine speed.
It may seem strange to say that a heat pump that never stops is energy efficient, but one must understand that most of the energy used by a heat pump is mobilized as the system is starting up. It's kind of like a car, where the biggest amount of gas is used when launching the engine.
This process is energy-intensive and by slowing down instead of stopping completely to restart later, Daikin heat pumps are better at maintaining the room temperature, since they don't have to start with as much force in order to bring the room to the desired temperature.
Heat pumps designed for sound control
Earlier on, we mentioned start and stop cycles - in addition to spending energy, this is a process that can create noise. The Daikin heat pump is known for being a silent heat pump because, on top of the variable speed motor, they have integrated soundproofing that lowers the sound level to 19 decibels for indoor units and 43 decibels for an outdoor unit. For reference, a washing machine produces an average noise level of around 70 decibels.
Regulations are also in effect in several municipalities regarding the distance between an exterior wall-mounted heat pump and your neighbours' property - look into this before having it installed!
Installation certified by authorized Daikin contractors
The installation of a Daikin heat pump system can only be carried out by an authorized Daikin contractor who is familiar with the range of products available and how they will adapt to your reality.
Daikin verifies the licenses of the contractors in their network, ensuring that you are dealing with a contractor with the appropriate certifications. Since a heat pump is an expensive purchase, it is important to make sure that the job will be done right throughout the installation process!
If you live in an area with colder winters, a licensed contractor can recommend the right heat pump for your specific needs, the space you need to cover and your budget. Most heat pumps can be combined with other means of heating in winter to ensure optimal indoor comfort during very cold periods (below -25°C).
Daikin heat pumps: eligible for energy efficiency subsidies
In Canada, installing a heat pump is considered an energy-efficient renovation, therefore, subsidies are available to allow Canadian homes access to energy-efficient options!
Be sure to check with your provincial government to see whether Daikin products are eligible for subsidies.
There is a program available with Hydro Quebec, known as the Efficient Heat Pump Program.
